The Olympic Peninsula

The Pacific Coast of the Olympic Peninsula was the first leg of the trip and the test phase of living from the car.
This is the most NW point of the US, Cape Flattery

Out for a brisk morning walk along the coast at Rialto Beach.

Making one of our many gourmet meals.

Tumorous trees, on the foggy summer coast.

That's a lot of Oysters shells and one handsome car!

Becoming Hippies

Life on the road is filled with strange rituals and dirty habits.
We have been camping with freinds in state campgrounds on Mt. St. Helens for three days, recovering from the exhausting hike to the top. Then on September 1st we set off alone for some beachfront parking on the Olympic Peninsula.
Things like going to the toilet in the night become little missions into the woods searching for clearings and listening for the packs of gang banging raccoons who's turf your on.
Other daily routines include boiling water for tea, searching for hidden parking spots or repacking the car after sleeping in the back; all things add up to complicating the normal rhythms of life.
After our first week of life in the Camry, we are getting comfortable with life on the ever new and changing road.

Farewell Olympia and our life of luxuary.

The days are counting down and we are constantly being reminded of how accustomed to Olympia we have become.
We walk around our favorite routes, we enjoy the annual pet parade and we come home to our most stable residence in recent years.
As we give away or sell the things we cannot fit in a suitcase we have both began to feel lighter but sometimes our attachments to 'things' goes deep.
In my case my trusty hand tools i have used for almost ten years now cannot be sold, so in to a coffin like box in storage they go!
On the other hand, Ami has had so much strife from our printer that she chose to beat it to death!
Retribution for all the paper jams, printing errors and other insults to her person over the years!
It felt good to see justice done!
On Tuesday we get the paperwork done and the house title changes owners; it's the one 'thing' we are both going to remember and miss the soonest.
But next, climbing Mountains!

Beginning of the end of the beginning...

Selling the House.
After three years of paying a mortgage, four years of roommates, five years of college, and six years of paying our taxes; we are getting out!
The house is under contract and the selling process is moving along.
By this time next week we should have our marching orders.
Then we just have to dissolve six years of collecting, storing, upgrading and splurging on material things.
We have to get down to a few suitcases worth of worldly belongings; i think i can live without underpants?
